Birmingham 1896 Silver 18” Chunky Albert, Oval Link Chain, Tbar & Dog Clip

My passion for precious metals and my journey as a silversmith along with my love of history has allowed me to curate a special collection of Antique and Vintage finds looking for new homes. 
I have a particular affection for Victorian Silver but some pieces extend into Edwardian and early 20th century and occasionally beyond. 
This chunky solid silver chain is 18” in length. Each link is roughly 21.75mm long x 11.2mm wide and unlike most Alberts which are graduated this is the same width all the way along and the links are ovals rather than the usual curb style. Whilst most links are stamped with the lion passant some are worn or illegible but the year stamp is present on the T Bar showing 1896 with maker mark HB, likely Henry Bourne, also marked AR1 which may possibly be a pattern number for the Tbar and SM which could be Samuel Miller Levi. The antique part of the chain was a little short so I have hand crafted matching links to make this a wearable 18” necklace. The dog clip is a modern replacement as the original was broken. The T bar is fixed at the centre point of the chain, it’s a nice length of 44.13mm. The chain is a very contemporary looking piece with a total weight of 120g
Whilst this is a vintage pre loved piece and does have age related characteristics these only add to the charm of it. It has been polished and all damaged or loose links have been repaired or replaced to ensure the piece can be worn without worrying that it will become detached or lost.
