About Paul Stephenson

Hello and welcome. I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my creative space. Whether you are searching for a personal treasure or a meaningful gift for someone special, I hope my pieces resonate with you.

Rooted in Yorkshire, Inspired by Journey

I was born, raised, and still live in a quiet village nestled in the vale of the Hambleton Hills in North Yorkshire. Together with my husband Stuart, our lives are deeply rooted here. For years, our home was filled with the joy of our elderly rescue dogs, Baxter and Piper. Though they have sadly left us, they remain a huge part of our story. Today, our home and studio are supervised by Tilly, my Mum’s 15-year-old rescue cat, who has happily taken on the official role of head of quality control.

From the Corporate Ladder to the Crucible

Creativity has always been my true compass. After achieving an A-grade in pottery at school, I was certain my future lay in working with my hands. Instead, life took a detour, leading me into a demanding 37-year corporate career climbing the ladder within the banking and financial industries. For over three decades, my creative passion had to be squeezed into the quiet corners of evenings and weekends.

In June 2026, I finally made the leap to leave the corporate world behind to dedicate myself entirely to silversmithing. Alongside running my business, I help care for my mum, who lives with Alzheimer's. Stepping into my home studio and working with silver is a vital sanctuary for my own mental wellbeing, providing a place where the stresses of the world melt away into the rhythm of making.

Born from the Sea

My journey into jewellery making began entirely by chance during a campervan roadtrip along the Durham coastline with our dogs. Stumbling upon fragments of sea glass, we discovered the rich history of the area’s old glass factories, whose waste materials had been transformed by decades in the North Sea into smooth, frosted sea gems.

Our obsession grew, taking us on quests across Scotland, the Outer Hebrides, and the wider UK. Surrounded by an ever-growing collection, I knew these oceanic treasures deserved to be seen and worn. I invested in some sterling silver and basic silversmithing tools. My very first attempts were a complete disaster, as most good things start, but I knew instantly that I had found my calling.

Self-Taught, Bold, and Bespoke

I am incredibly proud to work with silver, honoring its rich heritage. From the very beginning, I made a conscious choice to be completely self-taught. Rather than following tutorials or standard blueprints, I chose the path of trial, error, and intuition. Learning the hard way allowed me to develop a voice that is entirely my own. Every solder, file mark, and polish is fueled by genuine passion.

Over the years, my signature style has evolved to embrace the big, bold, and heavyweight, allowing me to create solid, contemporary statement pieces that are built to last. Yet, I never forget where the story began, frequently integrating sea glass and recycled elements into my designs to pay homage to the coast. My philosophy remains simple: handmade by me, especially for you.
