Birmingham C1890 Silver 22” Graduated Chunky Albert Chain & Dog Clip

My passion for precious metals and my journey as a silversmith along with my love of history has allowed me to curate a special collection of Antique and Vintage finds that I cannot wait to share. 
I have a particular affection for Victorian Silver but some pieces extend into Edwardian and early 20th century. 
This particular piece is a sympathetic marriage between a very heavyweight chunky graduated single Albert chain and a narrower chain of the same style and age to form a longer contemporary unisex necklace. 
The chunky solid silver chain is 22” in length and is a graduated width which is  11mm at the widest. Whilst the links are stamped with the lion passant most are worn or illegible but the year stamp is present and appears to be Birmingham C1890. The addition of the extra length of curb is in keeping with the original graduation and enhances the look for those who prefer a slightly longer length chain. The dog clip is original to the piece and also hallmarked. The chain can be worn in a conventional way with the clasp at the back and the largest links at the front or with the clasp to one side or the other, or the clasp can be worn at the front hooked onto a pendant, sentimental ring, or decorative brooch that would otherwise look out of place on a chain this chunky and making a very contemporary looking piece. Total weight is an enormous and decadent 90g
Whilst this is a vintage pre loved piece and does have age related characteristics these only add to the charm of it. It has been polished and all damaged or loose links have been repaired or replaced to ensure the piece can be worn without worrying that it will become detached or lost.
