Oak Jewellery Canteen, Brass Shield, Green Velvet Interior, Inner Tray & Key
Vintage solid oak jewellery box upcycled from an antique canteen of cutlery. It’s got a brass shield on the lid and comes complete with key. The interior and base of the box and original inner tray have been lined with thick plush sage / olive green coloured velvet to complement the style and the box has been lightly polished. The photos don’t really do the luxurious colour of the velvet justice. The 2nd and 3rd photos are the closest to showing the true colour. Whilst I’ve styled these boxes as jewellery canteens they have so many alternative uses.
These spacious boxes are intentionally simple, no ring holders or compartments, just a perfect space for you to lay out your best and prized pieces of jewellery as you decide keeping them safe and free from harm when they aren’t being worn. Whether you use the bottom section as storage or for the more precious pieces in your collection, the top tray is handy for those items you might wear more frequently or take off before bed the choices are all yours.
Outer dimensions 41cm x 28cm x 10.5cm
Inner roughly 38cm x 25.5cm x 9cm
Depth of bottom layer 6.5cm
Depth of tray 3cm
Photos show the actual canteen. The jewellery shown in the photos are for display purposes only. The last photo is an example of how multiple boxes look stacked together. You are only buying this one box.

My love of all things historical, prompted me to launch my online antique silver jewellery collection to run alongside my own handmade silver jewellery pieces. The vintage silver has proved so popular that I’ve decided to dip my toe in another project.
I collect antique furniture and regal and heraldic looking vintage items and over time this has extended to empty cutlery canteens. On the face of it with their bespoke interiors deems them unsuitable for anything else but on the outside these elegant wooden boxes lend themselves to a new life. They hold so much history that its sacrilege not to restore and repurpose them.
My lockable jewellery canteens are just that. The original box interior removed and replaced with stylish plush felt or velvet lining and the structure of the box and inner trays sympathetically restored to retain all the interesting telltale signs and battle scars of its previous life in the kitchen and dining room ready for a new life on the dressing table.
Each box is individual and unique. Whilst the insides of the boxes are completely refelted and the boxes made structurally sound, other than a light polish over, I have not changed any other features, the boxes have not been sanded down or restored in any other way to ensure they retain their original look. As vintage items, any scratches or marks add to the character and authenticity and something I wanted to cherish rather than cover up.
